Ayin Es began their own press in 2005, naming it Careless Press and created their first official handmade Artist's book, 1-SELF in their home letterpress studio. The name of the press existed until 2021 when they moved from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree, California, and changed their name from Carol Es to Ayin Es. The press was then renamed Desolate Press.

Born in 1968 in Santa Monica, California, Ayin Es identifies as nonbinary or genderqueer. They are known for their unusual oil paintings, drawings and collages, and their Artist's books reside in museums such as the Getty, Brooklyn Museum, and National Museum of Women in the Arts, as well as many university collections. They've also won a Pollock-Krasner Fellowship the Wynn Newhouse Award, an Artist Achievement Award from the National Arts and Disability Center, and the Bruce Geller Memorial Award from the American Jewish University. They currently live and work in Joshua Tree, CA and exhibit their work nationwide.
